Short-Term Action-Plan (Current Fiscal Year)
- Rainwater collection and recharge systems will be implemented across 20 diverse sites, providing a benefit to 6000 households
- To comply with legal requirements, licencing additional 50 new groundwater sources users
- To conduct a comprehensive study on the water quality of licensed wells and ascertain accurate information regarding the water quality
- The information regarding the quality of well water will be communicated through hoarding boards placed at the respective locations
- For the post-Melamchi services, Key Performance Indicators will be developed based on a comprehensive understanding and a plan will be implemented accordingly
- Gathering statistics for new tankers as well as existing ones that still needs to be licensed, and issuing licenses to ensure their compliance
- To oversee and enforce quality standards for services delivered by KUKL, groundwater users, and tanker service providers
- To carry out a public awareness campaign aimed at promoting water conservation
- To comply with legal requirements provide license to the shallow groundwater users for the commercial purpose
- To perform the operation and the management of water supply from Melamchi project in addition to overseeing sanitation services
- Sustaining the conservation efforts for historically significant stone spouts and ponds in Madhyapur Thimi and Kirtipur Municipalities
- Implementing small-scale water supply projects in 20 diverse locations
- The study for the "Detailed Engineering Survey, Design, Drawing, Cost Estimate, and Procurement Documents Works" of the Sisneri Water Supply Project has commenced
- Programs to install Water ATMs at 10 additional locations
Mid-Term Plan (2-3 years)
- Rainwater collection and recharge systems will be implemented across 40 diverse sites, providing a benefit to 12000 households
- To comply with legal requirements, licencing additional 100 new deep tube-wells users
- The KVWSMB intends to establish new boundaries and create updated cadastral maps for 200 ropanies of land that the board has owned
- Conducting a comprehensive assessment of licensed deep tube-wells and disseminating the relevant information to the public (Bore hole camera footage)
- Ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited
- Ensuring adherence to the key performance indicators established for the post-Melamchi service
- To reconcile the accounts with Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited
- Enabling the operation of assets created by the Project Implementation Directorate
- Developing policies for the management of the Melamchi Project, including aspects such as levies, asset handover, and operation
- Conducting a study on the recommended alternatives for water supply as outlined in CIAMP 2 (Thosne, Mahadev Khola, Likhu, Trishuli etc).
- Coordinating with the Project Implementation Directorate and the High-Powered Committee for the Integrated Development of the Bagmati Civilization to formulate policies for the preservation and restoration of river health in the Bagmati River and its affiliated tributaries
- Setting up a Water Supply Information Centre
- To establish a framework for determining tariffs for the utilization of groundwater sources
- Application of work plan for estuary protection
- Initiating a public awareness campaign and broadcasting informative messages after the completion of the Melamchi Project
- To request the government of Nepal for legal and policy clarity along with the federal structure
Long-Term Plans
- Working towards eliminating pollution from the Bagmati River and its tributaries
- To develop water supply and sanitation service providers as competent organizations and organize service operations (Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited and other service providers)
- Taking into consideration the natural disasters that may occur in the future and the demand for drinking water, the study of the water sources for the alternative water supply projects and discussion with relevant agencies for the implementation
- To prepare Sisneri water supply project and to take it to implementation level
- To establish Water Archive/Museum
